Suluhan Beach Pecatu

Once you’ve explored the familiar corners of Bali, from the lively streets of Kuta and Seminyak to the laid-back charm of Ubud, it may be time to see a different side of the island. Head south to Pecatu, a quieter corner of the Bukit Peninsula where limestone cliffs rise above the ocean, hidden beaches sit below, winding roads run, and sunsets seem to linger a little longer.

Pecatu is the kind of place that rewards you for slowing down. You can spend the morning watching surfers take on the waves, visit one of Bali’s most revered temples, or find a spot along the coast and wait for the sky to turn gold. From iconic landmarks to secluded beaches and unforgettable sunset spots, these Pecatu Bali tourist attractions offer plenty of reasons to make the journey and perhaps stay a little longer.

Why Visit Pecatu?

Pecatu is a popular destination among international travelers visiting Bali, particularly those interested in surfing and beach clubs. According to BPS-Statistics Indonesia Bali Province, Australian tourists accounted for roughly a quarter of all foreign tourist arrivals to Bali in early to mid-2026. Many visitors choose Pecatu for its beaches, surf spots, and easy access to some of the island’s well-known attractions.

Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu Temple is one of the main attractions in Pecatu and a popular stop for first-time visitors. The temple is built on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, giving it a setting unlike that of many other temples in Bali. It is located around 30 to 35 kilometers from Denpasar, with the drive usually taking about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. That makes Uluwatu Temple easy to include in a half-day trip, especially if you plan to visit other attractions around Pecatu afterward.

Sunset Views

One of the best reasons to visit Uluwatu Temple in the late afternoon is the sunset view. The temple sits on a high cliff facing the Indian Ocean, giving you a wide view of the coastline as the sun starts to go down. The area can get busy around this time, so arriving around 4:30 or 5 PM gives you enough time to walk around, find a good viewing spot, and enjoy the scenery before sunset. If you also want to watch the Kecak fire dance, you can stay afterward for the evening performance at the cliffside amphitheater.

Kecak Performance

The Kecak fire dance usually starts around 6 PM and runs for about an hour, with a separate ticket required from the temple entrance. The performance features dozens of performers chanting together while dancers act out scenes from the Ramayana. Combining the sunset with the Kecak dance makes it easy to spend a few hours at Uluwatu Temple without having to rush through the visit.

Best Beaches in Pecatu

Pecatu is home to some of the most popular beaches on the Bukit Peninsula, from well-known surf spots to stretches of coast. Many are tucked below limestone cliffs and require a short walk or staircase to reach, but the effort is well worth it for the scenery.

When to Visit

Uluwatu Temple tends to get crowded in the late afternoon, especially before the Kecak performance starts. Tour groups usually begin arriving around this time, so the temple and cliffside paths can feel much busier. For a more relaxed visit, try coming between 9 and 11 AM, when the weather is generally more comfortable and there are fewer visitors around.

Sunset is still a good time to visit if that is what you are after, but expect more people. Arriving at least 90 minutes before sunset gives you time to park, walk around the temple, and find a good spot without having to rush. If you are planning to stay for the Kecak dance, getting there early also makes it easier to find a seat.

Plan Your Pecatu Trip with Seeing Bali

Pecatu is easy to explore in a day, with beaches and attractions located close to each other. Start with Uluwatu Temple, visit a beach in the afternoon, and end the day with sunset and the Kecak performance.
