Munggu Beach
If you’re staying around Canggu or Kuta and want to visit a different beach, Munggu Beach is an easy option. Munggu Beach is a black sand beach on Bali’s southwest coast, known mainly for its surf and sunset views. The beach is also less commercial than many of the popular beaches in South Bali, with fewer shops and beach clubs along the shoreline.
Munggu Beach is located between Pererenan and Seseh in Munggu Village, Badung Regency, at the end of Jalan Pantai Munggu. From Canggu, the beach is around a 20-minute drive. To get there, turn left at the intersection with the large banyan tree and continue along the road until you reach the beach.
Munggu Beach stretches for around 500 meters and is best for surfing and sunset views. The waves can be strong, making it unsuitable for swimming.
Munggu Beach is surfable, but it tends to be quieter than the more popular breaks around Canggu and those further west. The waves here are generally small but can still be powerful. There are no lifeguards on the beach, so surfers should be aware of the conditions and their surroundings.

The best time to visit Munggu Beach is in the late afternoon, especially from around 5 PM onwards when you can stay for sunset. If you’re planning to surf, the dry season is generally a better time for a quick session, while the waves tend to be stronger during the heavier rains from December to February.
Munggu Beach is easy to reach, making it a convenient option if you want somewhere quieter while staying close to Bali’s main tourist areas. From Canggu, the drive takes around 10 minutes. Along the way, you’ll pass through areas of green rice fields, which make for a pleasant view on the route to the beach.
