Bali is one of those places that looks incredible no matter when you go, but timing your trip can make a noticeable difference once you’re actually there. For the most part, had great weather across Ubud, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua, with just a couple of days of heavy rain. We've written this guide based on our experience of the best time to visit Bali.
The best time to visit Bali is during the dry season, from April to October. If you want the perfect balance of great weather and fewer crowds, aim for May, June, September, or October. These months give you sunny skies, calm seas, and far more breathing room than the busy July-August peak. The right time to visit really depends on what kind of holiday you are looking for.
Bali has two main seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. Choosing the right season depends on whether you prioritize sunshine and outdoor activities or prefer fewer tourists and better travel deals.
The dry season, from April to October, is widely considered the best time to visit Bali. During these months, you can expect warm temperatures between 27–32°C, low humidity, and refreshing coastal breezes that make exploring the island much more comfortable. If you're looking for the driest weather, August is usually your best bet, with average rainfall dropping to just 41mm.
With sunny days and minimal rain, you’ll have the perfect conditions to enjoy everything Bali has to offer. You can spend your days beach hopping in Seminyak and Nusa Dua, wandering through the rice terraces and temples around Ubud, joining snorkeling, diving, or island-hopping tours, or challenging yourself with a sunrise trek to Mount Batur.
The rainy season, from November to March, brings short tropical showers that usually arrive in the afternoon or evening, while mornings are often bright and sunny. January is typically the wettest month, with up to 281mm of rainfall spread across around 19 rainy days. If you’re worried about the rain affecting your plans, consider staying on the island’s east coast, such as Nusa Dua or Uluwatu, where conditions are generally drier than the west coast during this time of year.
Even with occasional showers, the rainy season has plenty to offer. You’ll enjoy fewer crowds, better hotel deals, and easier access to popular tours and accommodations. The landscapes are also at their greenest, making places like Bali’s rice terraces especially beautiful, while the slower pace creates the perfect opportunity to unwind with spa treatments or explore the island’s rich cultural attractions.
If you prefer a quieter side of Bali, it’s best to avoid visiting in July and August, as well as during the Christmas and New Year holidays. These are the island’s busiest travel periods, meaning popular attractions, beaches, and restaurants can get crowded, while accommodation prices are often at their highest.
Instead, plan your trip during the shoulder season, when you can enjoy a trip without sacrificing good weather. You’ll find quieter beaches, shorter queues at major attractions, and a slower pace that gives you more space to soak in Bali’s local culture.
The best time to visit Bali for your honeymoon is May, June, or August. These months fall within the dry season, giving you plenty of sunshine, calm seas, and comfortable weather for exploring the island together. Unlike the busier months of July, you’ll also experience fewer crowds, making romantic dinners, beach walks, and luxury stays feel more private and relaxing.
If you’d like to add a cultural touch to your honeymoon, consider visiting in mid-January. During Galungan (13-23 January 2027), you’ll see Bali beautifully decorated with towering penjor bamboo poles, while villages come alive with colorful ceremonies and the sounds of traditional gamelan music. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the island’s rich traditions while creating unforgettable memories together.
Planning your Bali trip a little earlier can help you save money and avoid unnecessary stress. If you're visiting during the busy season (July, August, or the year-end holidays), it's a good idea to book your flights and airport transfer two to three months in advance. You should also check local holidays, especially Nyepi, when the airport closes for 24 hours and most activities stop across the island. If your travel dates are flexible, even moving your trip by a week or two can often mean cheaper flights, better hotel rates, and fewer crowds.
The best time to visit Bali also depends on the kind of holiday you want. For a romantic getaway, May and September offer sunny weather with fewer tourists. June is ideal for family vacations, while February is a great choice if you’re travelling on a budget. If you’re looking for outdoor adventures and cultural experiences, April and October provide pleasant weather and a more relaxed atmosphere. By choosing the right travel dates, you'll enjoy the best of Bali while making the most of your budget and travel style.
No matter when you decide to visit, Bali offers unforgettable experiences throughout the year. The key is choosing the season that best matches your travel style, whether you’re chasing sunny beach days, lush green landscapes, cultural festivals, or a quieter escape with fewer crowds. If you’re unsure which destinations, activities, or travel dates are right for you,
