Cemagi Beach Bali: Tips And Complete Guide

A Great Sunset Spot With Exotic Black Sand

Cemagi Beach

Cemagi Beach isn’t the kind of place you visit for a long list of things to do. It’s mostly about the beach with dark volcanic sand, strong waves, and a few fishermen and locals around. There are no rows of beach clubs here, although the area is slowly changing. If you’re around Canggu or Seseh and want somewhere a little quieter, Cemagi is an easy place to spend a few hours.

The Location

Cemagi Beach is located in Cemagi Village, around 30 minutes from Denpasar and 20 minutes from Canggu. The beach is easy to reach by car or motorbike, and the road takes you through rice fields and small village roads. It’s close enough to Canggu and Pererenan, but the area still feels quiet and away from the busy areas.

Things to Do At Cemagi Beach

Cemagi Beach is a good place to take things slow. You don't need to plan too many activities here. Just walk around, enjoy the beach, and take in the sunset.

Walk Along the Black Sand

Take a walk along the black sand and enjoy the sound of the waves. The beach is wide, so you have plenty of space to walk and enjoy the view. You can also see locals around the beach, which makes the area feel more natural and less touristy.

Surfing

Surfing is one of the main draws at Seseh Beach surf spots along this stretch of coast. The waves can be strong, making it better suited to intermediate and advanced surfers rather than complete beginners. That said, surf rentals and local instructors are available nearby if you want to give it a try under guidance.

Watch the Sunset

Cemagi Beach is a nice spot to watch the sunset. In the late afternoon, you can sit by the beach and watch the sky change as the sun goes down. It is also a good time to visit if you prefer a cooler and quieter atmosphere.

Visit Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus

Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus is a small sea temple on the rocky coast near Mengening Beach. It is a peaceful place to visit and has a nice view of the sea. If you stop by, remember that it is still an active place of worship, so dress properly and be respectful.

Explore Cemagi Village

After visiting the beach, you can take a short drive or walk around Cemagi Village. The area is still fairly quiet, with rice fields, coconut trees, and local houses along the roads. It’s a simple way to see a different side of Bali, away from the busier parts of Canggu.

Entrance Fee

Like most beaches in Bali, there is no entrance fee to Cemagi Beach; show up and step onto the sand, and the beach is there for all to enjoy. However, there is sometimes a small parking fee, so if you have a car or a private driver, you may need to pay it. As always, keep some small change.

Tips For Visiting

For a quieter visit, come in the morning, especially before 9 AM, when the beach is usually less crowded, and the light is good for photos. The dry season, from April to October, generally offers more predictable weather. It’s also a good idea to bring enough cash, as there are no ATMs close to the beach. If you want to explore nearby places like Tanah Lot or Canggu, hiring a private car with a driver can make getting around easier.

When visiting the temples, dress respectfully by covering your shoulders and wearing a sarong if needed. Most importantly, be careful around the water, as the waves and currents at Seseh can be stronger than they appear. Avoid swimming alone, especially if you are unfamiliar with the conditions.

Nearby Destinations to Combine with Cemagi Beach

One advantage of visiting Seseh is its proximity to several other worthwhile destinations, making it easy to add to a day-trip itinerary. Tanah Lot is around 20 minutes south and is one of Bali’s most iconic sea temples, with sunrise or late afternoon being a good time to visit. Just south of Cemagi, Pererenan Beach offers a more established cafe scene. A short drive away, Munggu Beach (Pantai Munggu) is another quiet black sand beach that works well as a stop before or after Cemagi.
